McGee & Co is a leader in home goods started by Shea and Syd Mcgee of Studio McGee. We were asked to help design and build an experience that matched the level of detail, care, and quality that Shea puts into her client work and products.
McGee & Co has a great brand and an even better reputation. We wanted to learn from customers on how to make things even better. After plenty of research and some collaboration, we started to create some different themes the brand and site could go down. We wanted the site to be both editorial and interactive.
We chose typography that paired well together, that was easy to read and gave us options.
We started with how customers use the site and how they wanted to use the site. We came up with multiple ideas of how we wanted to handle the navigation. We changed the focus to search and an easier more organized menu structure. This would help customers find what they were looking for easier and faster.
We wanted the home page to accommodate different shopping styles. 1. Users that know exactly what they are looking for. 2. Users that are redesigning a particular room. 3. Users that are looking for a particular style. 4. Users that are seeking some guidance and resources.
We wanted to keep the design very consistent and organized for the immediate launch but also for the future. We created an interactive style guide that broke down the design into components and elements this made adding new pages easier and kept their team and our team on the same page.
The launch of the new McGee & Co site came at a exciting time. Shea had just launched a line in collaboration with Target and her new show “Dream Home Makeover” on Netflix. Users came accustomed to new features almost instantly. The design system made it so much easier for internal designers to create new campaign pages. Finally the overall performance of the site improved both technically and financially. We appreciate their team trusting us to try some new things out and have fun with it!
