Overview

Cardiff Snowcraft creates handcrafted snowboards inspired in every detail for some of the highest adventures. The Cardiff team asked us to create an ecommerce experience that matched their mantra. “Stand in high places”.

The Cardiff Passion

Cardiff is a detail brand with a highly detailed product. The team is one of the most passionate about their product that we have ever met. They literally had notebooks of notes and sketches for every single board in their line. This was the inspiration around how we approached everything that went into the site.

Elements

The board designs were so good we wanted to incorporate the graphics throughout the site through icons, watermarks, etc.

Cardiff Tech

We wanted to create a way users could pick a board that matched their riding style. We worked with the Cardiff team to create a spectrum. The spectrum is an interactive board selector that shows different types of riding. It starts with the sketch of the board on hover the graphic appears then click to go to the PDP. On the PDP they could make the last few buying decisions and checkout. This creates a different shopping experience that keeps the user informed while making confident purchasing decisions.

Inspiration behind the story

We did some quick testing and got positive feedback around one of our design directions because it looked inspired by old snowboard magazine layouts. We didn't want to overuse this idea so we focused it onto the About page. Taking customers through the journey of the brand including the work and innovation that went into the newest collection of boards. Creating that feeling of reading through your favorite snowboard editorial piece.

Buying Experience

Buying a Cardiff can be tricky because of all the options you can choose from. We simplified the message and organized the buying decisions into groups. This simplified the cart and check out process dramatically.

The Results

We saw improvements for every KPI we measured. It was such an improvement from the previous site it felt like a brand launch even though Cardiff had been in business for a couple of years. We know this is such a big year for the Cardiff crew and are excited for the years to come.
